Cue the Theme from Twilight Zone

So, weirdest thing ever.

Last night on my way home from work, I started thinking about B, an old friend from high school.  We were total partners in crime and teen punk/gothdom.  I swear, we did more wacky things together than all the rest of my friends combined. Like the night we camped out all night for Echo and the Bunnymen/New Order tickets.  The time the backyard tree at my parents' house caught fire and we were so stoned (parents were out of town) we couldn't remember the number for 911. The night we picked up German boys in Paris. How we got mugged one night walking home from work. When we got arrested for underage drinking in Madison. We were naughty, but at heart was a wonderful friendship and it never quite sat right with me that we lost touch about 10 years ago or so.

I was trying to think about how I could find her again.  I knew she'd taken her husband's last name when she married but for the life of me, I couldn't remember it. I vowed that when I got home, I'd try to see if her brother was on Facebook.  Of course, I forgot about it the minute I got home, since I had to rush and make food for tonight's festivities.

When I woke up this morning, I had a message on Facebook.  It was from B's husband, saying that she wasn't on Facebook but here was her email address and she'd love to get in touch with me.

WEIRD, HUH? And very cool.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it!

Arrival

Welcome!

I've been blogging for several years, but on LiveJournal, which is mostly a friends-only closed shop. I thought I'd get off my butt and try writing a public blog. I haven't decided what (if anything) I'll focus on. Writing thoughts? Book recs? Personal musings? My insane dream life? Cooking and food? Blather about the TV shows I'm currently obsessing about? We'll see.

So yeah, hi. As the "About Me" section says, I've recently turned 40, which I CANNOT believe. In my head, I'm still 20 and in college (which is nuts, since college mostly sucked). I work for a nonprofit but I won't talk about work, except in the most general terms.

I live in the Twin Cities, in the downtown area of one of our fine cities. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work and to have the option of not going outside at all if the weather is foul (thanks to our skyway system). I've been married for almost four years to N, who is a law student and an all-round excellent guy. We have one cat, a very naughty creature named Buddy. No children, and this is by choice. No, I don't hate kids. I have an adorable niece and nephew and I love them very much.

I LOVE to cook. I'll probably post some food pictures, recipes and restaurant reviews as I go. I'm not anywhere approaching a gourmet cook, but I love to eat and cook new cuisines and dishes. Right now, I'm especially into anything Asian: Thai, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese the most.

Oh, and I'm a HUGE liberal. While I'm always open to new viewpoints, if it's a problem for hyou, this might not be the blog for you.
